Go beyond your comfort zone and take a chance on yourself. Build on your musical background, find your talent for teaching and make a difference in students’ lives. Because you’ll never know just how great you can be until you try.
Young Harris College music education majors choose one of two emphases: Choral or Instrumental. Diction for the Singer and Vocal Pedagogy are advanced courses featured in the Choral emphasis. Arranging and Marching Band Techniques are advanced courses featured in the Instrumental emphasis. Strong partnerships with area schools ensure you’ll have outstanding field and clinical experiences, and degree candidates work closely with experienced instructors in both the music and education departments.

Young Harris College takes great pride in its comprehensive program, which includes wind ensemble, concert band, jazz band, Purple Reign pep band, community band and various chamber ensembles. (The annual Acapalooza concert and Pops on the Plaza are favorites for the locals.) You can also show your stuff at various competitions and conferences, including the Georgia Music Educators Association’s annual conference.
You’ll graduate with strong teaching skills and hands-on lab and practicum experiences, all backed by your solid musical knowledge. Our programs emphasize performance, pedagogy and P-12 certification by the state of Georgia so you can begin a successful career as a music teacher in public or private schools.
